There are five bodies that live in my house. And the reality is with our busy lives these five bodies go everywhere. Our family has days we are all home and other days that no one is home. At times no one knows what needs to be done, and the biggest question at times as been What is for dinner?.
I decided to change that up this year. I was a mom on a mission! I decided to do a bit of research and figure out a place or spot to put a list of chores for everyone and what was going to be for dinner. Then everyone would know where to look, AND I would hopefully be able to stop being a bit of a nag about it. (maybe not. *sigh*)
Step one-
I had a really big cork board in my garage. Instead of through it away a put it on the wall in a place everyone could see. And being as big as it is my family sees it.
Step two-
Deciding what I really wanted on this board. It is rather big, and could hold a lot. I just did not want to overwhelm everyone or make it too busy. I decided meals, chores, and possible important messages if neccessary.
Step three-
Supplies! This is the fun part for me, deciding what to use to put all the information up there. I liked the rustic look with a bit of country through in. I decided on clothes pins, buckets, pins, pens, frame, sign, and buckets.
Step four-
Making in board. Again the favorite part of the process. Bringing all my ideas to life.
I took the clothes pins and labled them. I had 7, one for each day of the week, and 5, one for each member of our family. Then I glued 7 clothes pins on one side of the board, and 5 on the other side.
I took the push pins with hooks and placed four of them near the bottom of the board. The first bucket holds 30 to 40 meal ideas to use. The second bucket holds the meals after they have been used. Basically I am cycling through 30 to 40 meals at a time. The third bucket holds pens to write with. And the last bucket holds empty cards. The empty cards are used to list out the chores I need each person to do that day. I usually try to have the cards up there the night before or early the morning of so everyone knows what they are suppose to be doing that day.
With the frame I put an important message I wanted my family to know. For us it is breakfast is the most important me of the day. My family struggles with that. Maybe you have young children and they need to be reminded to be kind, or share. Maybe it is just you and your hubby and you want to say I love you each day. The message is up to you.
Lastly I have an area for messages that come in or things I need to remind others of. I placed extra pins on the board so I had something to hang the messages with.
I also added a few pretty draw pulls to hang my reusable grocery bags, and my aprons.
And VAYLAY! I have my board. It has been a great help for our family. Everyone knows there chores For me the biggest help has been having the meals right there in sight. I can adjust if my week gets hecked. And when I write my grocery list the meals are right there and I know what I will need for each day.
I would love to see other ideas and tips to help your home run smoother.
