Today, in fact probably this past few weeks, I have had days where feel kind of blah. The feeling like you really don't want to do anything but binge watch some show on Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu. The feeling I get when I all I want to do is nothing, or probably just read a book all day and ignore the dishes, laundry, and other LONG list of chores that screams at me each morning. That has been my day.
In fact, I am not ashamed to admit I have done quite literally nothing most of my day. I have checked my emails, coasted through Facebook, and slept with my puppies. Today has been a "dogs" life for me. But the reality I have to accept now as I look at the time being almost 5pm and dinner needs to be made is how productive have I been. How much have I been living my life today?
Currently I am reading in Acts, chapter 17 is where I read today. In the beginning Paul and Silas are traveling through Greece. At this point they came to a synagogue in Thessalonica. After three Sabbath days of preaching many of the Jews became jealous and created mob of people to attack the house of Jason whom Paul and Silas was staying with. The Jews took Jason before the city authoritise. They were disturbed, and only after Jason paid the fine did the officials let him go.
The brothers at this point sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. Here Paul and Silas found the Jews to be more noble and eacher to recieve the word and examin scriptures. Unfortunately the guys back in Thessalonica heard about this and came to Berea to mess up Paul and Silas ministry. Again they had to leave to go to Athens. Now when Paul arrived at Athens he noticed all the idols, and was lead to preach the word. He again felt a great urging to speak to the people about Christ and what He did for us.
Now the reason I talk about this today is because of my own "dog" life attitude. With everything Paul was faced, being kicked out of two towns within weeks of each other and having to travel by night, did that stop him?! NO! He continued on being urged and guided by the Holy Spirit. In Him we lie and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28a).
Just as Paul lived his life for, through, and because of Christ so must I live my life. No laundry is not fun, nor is the never ending sink of dirty dishes. But this is the ministry that God has given me. To love my husband, children and home. To care for those who are near me.
So... I am turning off the Netflix, even though the show is pretty good, and I am turning the desire of the Spirit within me.
