In serving tea, the table should be arranged before any visitors arrive. It s cover may be a linen tea cloth embroidered or trimmed with lace, while the cups ad saucers, with the spoon resting in each saucer, the thin slices of lemon, the small wafers, cakes or sandwiches on plates or pretty doilies, should be artistically arranged upon it. The tea kettle should be in its place, the teapot just in front of it. The cream pitcher and sugar bowl should be within convenient reach. If the hostess pours the tea, she allows the guest to put in the sugar and cream for themselves. If she expects any visitors, then there will be wisdom in asking a friend to pour tea for her. An excerpt from Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellent Instructions.
There are times I love to spend time just me. It feels good. The quiet rejuvenates me. But there is time when it is fun to spend time with the family.
My family is a unique experience, I am sure like many others. We are a very diverse array of personalities and add a spice of loudness, you have my family. One of the many things we like to do together is eat. Who doesn't?!
Today my family and I took the chance to go eat lunch together on our way to see their grandfather, my father-in-law. I should note at this time, that my hubby loves small mom pop type restaurants. He is not a fan of "chain" restaurants. So today we went to Fire on the Mountain out off of 57th.
This place was great! The atmosphere felt fun. The food tasted good. Best of all the company brought an amazing amount of fun. In true form my kids generated the much needed entertainment while my husband wanted to watch the football game but couldn't..... Maybe because the television was to his back, not my choice ladies! The most important thing at the end of the day, we had a good time.
This afternoon filled with great times; visiting with my kids; see my father-in-law; and just being together as a family reminded me of how important it is to spend time together as a family. My kids are getting older. They are growing into adults so fast, and I know soon they will be out of our house and on their own.
Days like today is what I need. They are times I am going to cherish and look back on with laughter. For now I can enjoy my quiet evening knowing that tomorrow will be another day, probably filled with a bit of crazy...... and that is okay.
Now if you want to know more about the restaurant that we visited here you go....... Fire on the Mountain. They have three locations. Great food, and a large amazing selection of barbecue sauces to pick from. They also offer deep fried Oreos and deep fried Twinkies.
It has been quite a few years, but I found this book that has brought great advice but also humor. Probably more humor then advice in truth. The book is called Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellenct Instructions for homekeeping.
Mrs. Dunwoody is a character based on the inspiring characters of the Southern women. A lady that has an effortless perfection and tireless attention to every detail. But as you hear her advice in may just inspire you to hold the art of homekeeping sacred. Mrs. Dunwoody needs to be a character of inspiration not of comparing ourselves to what she accomplished. She is someone who can point us back to the traditional way of caring for our homes.
From Mrs. Dunwoody's Excellent Instructions for homekeeping.
Home reflects the creativity, serenity and beauty we hold dear. It should restore our souls. Home should be the place where we can grow, and thrive, and live and love to the fullest extent.
A Little Common Sense Our family members will carry the atmosphere we create in our homes for the rest of their lives.
